A Quote to Curb Christian Consumerist Voting

May we not allow the government to usurp the work of the local church. Better still: May we not allow the government to usurp the work of God. I don't care what your political ideology is: this applies to both sides of the party line. 

Consumerist voting is like consumerist religion: we request a politician (or god) to do what we want (even when what we want may be a good thing). Meanwhile, we have avoided personal responsibility. Like I said in my last posting: voting is a wonderful thing; the problem comes when that is all we do.

May this month be a rich season where the church is praying more than talking, serving more than critiquing, and expecting gospel-transformation in the hearts of all who hear and believe.
